Myspace.com is becoming really popular, especially since Fox5 company took it over. And now they have their own record label and are in a deal with Universal records. There are the aspiring, the established indie artists, groups, vocalist, friends as well as the professional artists that have pages there.

I have a profile page there, I am not considered an artist, even though I know how to sing, but I’m first and foremost a songwriter/music publisher. The site is a cool place to network & meet people, industry and fans alike. I’ve been meeting some cool people there. Artists & fans alike. I will profile some of my songs there on my page once I learn how to put the player on my page. Or I may have to make another page. I’ve found some cool sites that deal with Myspace.com where they have “layouts, backgrounds, gifs, etc.

I would like to know if any of you here on “Songwriter101” have a myspace page if so list it here on this thread. It’s a nice way for all us to meet new people industry wise and friends/fan wise. Also I’d like to add some of you to myspace circle of friends.

I didn’t even realize My Space had a music site until I read this thread a month ago. Since then, I have signed up and been able share my songs with people I’ve known for years, folks who didn’t even know I sang or wrote songs.
Hobby or business, writing songs is a great way to express yourself, but certainly more rewarding when others can easily hear them.
I especially like the choice of whether or not to let people download. I choose not to allow it because I feel my music is still “raw” and not ready for that much sharing.

I have a myspace page, but one drawback I see is the 4-song limit
on the player. While I’ve got over a hundred songs, I’ve got nowhere

has no limitation on how many songs you can list and upload. While
myspace may be more popular .… to get the more overall picture of
an artist, soundclick is better in my opinion especially with soundclicks’
VIP enrollment program which adds some perks to the regular

Sorry to be prudish. I don’t do myspace. Too many bad things happening there to children and adolescents. Until Fox (or whoever owns the darn thing) cleans it up, I’m not gonna risk my songs or reputation by rewarding them for allowing bad behavior.

Take a look at the newscasts about young girls and boys being stalked by predators via this “opportunity.”

I don’t mean to imply that you are wrong to pursue this avenue. It just does not meet my criteria (yet) for what I perceive to be responsible behavior. After all, I am responsible for my actions and decisions… nobody else! They should be too!

That’s just my take. I am frequently wrong.

I have both a soundclick and a myspace account. While I agree with Jeff that uploads being limited to four songs is restrictive, I also have a problem with Myspace’s “technical difficulties”...I never have trouble gaining administrative access to my soundclick account, while myspace is roll of the dice some days. I also have trouble with the “networking” features of myspace...They don’t do a very good job, even for free...

A SCOT who worked in a supermarket is helping write Australian star Kylie Minogue’s next album.

Calvin Harris traded shelf-stacking at Marks & Spencer in Dumfries for a London recording studio after his work was discovered on internet site MySpace.

Harris, 23, said: “Kylie was bouncing about to my music, she said she loved it.

“She was great to work with. She’s the most laid-back superstar you could ever meet. She even put a photo of us recording in Australia’s Vogue magazine, which she guest-edited.”

Harris started sending demo tapes to record companies when he was 15 years old but was about to give up when he decided to try his luck on the internet.

He joined MySpace , posted tracks recorded in his bedroom, and built a following. His talent was spotted by a leading producer, who told Minogue.

Harris said: “I joined MySpace as a last-ditch attempt to get noticed. I did. It’s fantastic.”

His Sony BMG debut single, Acceptable in the 80s, is due next month.

Songwriter Marty Dodson and her co-writer, the guitarist, and the band are doing something very right in the rock/pop genre. Vocals are out front, enunciation is clear, and lyrics are easy to follow in conversational style. I think the verse, chorus, hook, bridge structures are worth study, and I don’t mind going back for another listen to do that.

Excellent rhythms and rhymes. Interesting lyrical content. I support the anti-violence and promiscuity movement for rap but until the real world ain’t like that I don’t see how people can stop rappin’ about it. This is a cut above the usual. I like the ladies in the background vocals, keepin’ it fresh so you can come back and give the next verse. You’d probably do well at live shows, if you’re not already. I don’t see a tour list. Take this stuff to the show. If you rap it they will come. Get it copyright registered if you haven’t. www.copyright.gov I’m not big on modern music of any genre, not listening, so I don’t know what the competition’s doing, but this, I think, can compete. “Get Off” is hilarious.

Everyone welcome!

Hi!  My band doesn’t have a myspace page yet, but we are researching what we can and can’t put up on the page as a cover band.  Our objective is to use the page to refer venues to it when we are booking, and to show our friends and family what we do with all the time we spend in the basement!  We would like to upload some rehearsal recordings so that venues can hear us.  However, we don’t want to infringe on any copyright laws.  We would obviously not be selling these songs for other people to download or anyhing, and would put that it’s a cover of so and so’s song.  Does anyone know, definitively, not just based on what you think but based on the law, if is posting a rehearsal recording would be considered a copyright infringement?

Natasha, read the terms of service on MySpace. It’s been a while since I read it but I think it says you must own or have permission from the owner of copyrights to post works on the site. So you could post your own songs there, tell people you’re a cover band and maybe list cover song titles. But I don’t think you’d be allowed to post covers. I could be wrong. Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce you to Jennifer Adan, the songwriter of Blake Shelton’s single “She Wouldn’t Be Gone.” (This is the country market, but, as I listened I was thinking Maroon Five could do this their way, and even Hip Hop could cover it with little change to tempo.)

Notice the timing, overall about 3:20 something. The hook factor of the chorus commences at… well, you watch the time and see, and THE hook/title comes about 1:10. Then there’s another verse, the chorus again, another hit on THE hook, then a short...I forget if it was a bridge or just a tag, hitting the hook again. Shelton will likely have a nice hit out of this one, breaking the mold a bit, a bit more innovative melodically than the average song in that market, and above average lyrically. Ms. Adan gave him the vehicle. I’m going back to listen to the rest of her songs, with a positive expectation. www.garyeandrews.com
