Confusion of words

I write my poems on a scrap piece of paper
Read them once then throw them away
My mind is awash with verbs and adjectives
But still I don’t know what to say

I scribble my lyrics on a Macca’s napkin
Mull them over then cast them away
My mind is clouded with nouns and conjunction
But still I don’t know what to say

Now Katherine sweet Katherine
I heard your the mystic kind
So Katherine sweet Katherine
Could you please read my mind
Let me leave the confusion of words behind

For these sentences are sentencing me to insanity

I chalk romance on a shared footpath
Consider them through then wash them away
My mind is scrambled with pronouns and adverbs
But still I don’t know what to say

I type out my convictions on a facebook page
Scan them quickly then delete away
My mind is flooded with preposition and interjection
But still I don’t know what to say

Now Katherine sweet Katherine
I heard your the mystic kind
So Katherine sweet Katherine
Could you please read my mind
Let me leave the confusion of words behind

For these sentences are sentencing me to insanity

Maybe I could find inspiration from the poets of old
Copy out their rhyme and claim victory
Or maybe I could find the sentences on a lyric sheet
Copy out the verse and bathe in glory

Now Katherine sweet Katherine
I heard your the mystic kind
So Katherine sweet Katherine
Could you please read my mind
Let me leave the confusion of words behind

For these sentences are sentencing me to insanity

Stuart, some ideas to consider;

Jan 10, 2019, 05:33 AM
(I wonder if opening with the ‘Katherine’ Stanza would work.)

Katherine, Sweet Katherine

Now Katherine, Sweet Katherine
I heard your the mystic kind (I HEAR you are/you’re the mystic kind)
So Katherine, Sweet Katherine
Could you please read my mind
Let me leave the confusion of words behind (Maybe ‘Help me leave…)

I write my poems on a scrap piece of paper
Read them once, then throw them away
My mind is awash with verbs and adjectives
But still I don’t know what to say (I’d delete ‘But’. And maybe say, “I still don’t know what to say” instead of “Still I…” You’d have to sing it to see if one works better than the other.)

I scribble my lyrics on a Macca’s napkin
Mull them over then cast them away
My mind is clouded with nouns and conjunction
Still I don’t know what to say

Now Katherine, Sweet Katherine
I hear you’re the mystic kind
So Katherine sweet Katherine
Could you please read my mind
Let me leave the confusion of words behind

For these sentences are sentencing me to insanity (This line, while I see its relevance to the ‘words’ concept, seems extra, drawing further afield from Katherine and the ‘confusion of words’ rather than reinforcing the concept.)

I chalk romance on a shared footpath
Consider them through then wash them away
My mind is scrambled with pronouns and adverbs
Still I don’t know what to say

I type out my convictions on a Facebook page
Scan them quickly then delete away
My mind is flooded with preposition and interjection
Still I don’t know what to say

Now Katherine, Sweet Katherine
I hear you’re the mystic kind
So Katherine sweet Katherine
Could you please read my mind
Let me leave the confusion of words behind

For these sentences are sentencing me to insanity

Maybe I could find inspiration from the poets of old
Copy out their rhyme and claim victory
Or maybe I could find the sentences on a lyric sheet
Copy out the verse and bathe in glory

Now Katherine, Sweet Katherine
I hear you’re the mystic kind
So Katherine, Sweet Katherine
Could you please read my mind
Let me leave the confusion of words behind

For these sentences are sentencing me to insanity

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? http://www.garyeandrews.com
