“Downhome Feelin”

Well here’s my second attempt let me know what you think.

I grew up in a small town
In Southern Middle Tennessee
Not too many places to go
And not too much to see
But if you tried hard enough
You’d find plenty there to do.
Just had to let that down home feeling get the best of you.

Got that down home feeling
Runnin’ through my veins
When it comes to being home
Nothin’s quite the same
Friends on every corner,
Hey there’s Jack and Bobby Sue.
Just got to let that down home feeling get the best of you

Friday night meant football
And the stands were always full
Some were really football fans
Most just shot the bull
But everyone always stood
To cheer for the Gray and Blue
Just had to let that down home feeling get the best of you

Got that down home feeling
Runnin’ through my veins
When it comes to being home
Nothin’s quite the same
Friends at every corner
Like Big Jim and Betty Lou.
Just got to let that down home feeling get the best of you

Now I’ve got house
Two cars, a wife, a kid
Just know that I’ll be payin
For everything I did
But there’s no place like home
To raise a family
I’m glad that good ole’ down home feeling got the best of me

Got that down home feeling
Runnin’ through my veins
When it comes to being home
Nothin’s quite the same
Friends on every corner,
There’s George, Joe, and Bubba too.
Just got to let that down home feeling get the best of you

Eric,
This is really good stuff. How long have you been writing? You seem to have a natural ability to make the words flow. Really easy to put a melody to. (may not be the melody you have in mind) but flows well non the less. Do you also play and sing? Keep up the good work. lol…........

Thanks.  Been doing a little poetry here and there since I was a kid but never have taken it too seriously.  As far as play or sing, NO!  Let’s just saywe’ll all be better off if I just stick to witing every now and then.

Eric, BUY A GUITAR…
And listen to some of the singer/songwriters out there, many of them “can’t sing” either. It’s not about the voice, it’s about the voice.

You see Tim,

It will do me no good to buy a guitar.  I can’t play.  If you’ve got any advice on how to learn quick and easy let me know.  Appreciate the compliment!

Do you guys thinks this flows better with this little change?

“get the best of you” to “get to you”

Okay, slow down Eric. There’s no “how to learn quick and easy” way to do anything worth while. To learn you gotta buy one. Learn the three old favorite G-C-D chords. Then when you think you’ve “got it” throw in the same monkey wrench the rest of us had to struggle with and learn an F chord. You will look back and feel it was all worth it. I’d have went much crazier than I have without my trusty six string!

Eric,
For the melodie I have in my head, “get the best of you” works better. It all depends on how you sing it and how the words flow. for the most part though, this songs flows like water, smooth and natural. lol…........
