Friends,

This Demo was recorded in Iraq.

I’m stationed over here in Balad. It’s a rough copy considering what I have available…lol…I will re-record it whenever I get home…

Anyway…Here goes…

“This Time”
Written by S. LeeAndrew Bray (BMI)

Verse One
People always ask me why the long face,
Are you feeling blue, and how are you?
I always tell them, that it’s the same old thing,
Na, nothing new, oh, but that’s not true

Chorus
I don’t wanna say I’m going crazy
And I don’t wanna tell em’ I’ve lost my mind
I ain’t being myself here lately
Oh, but the truth is,
She’s really gone this time, this time

Verse Two
We have been through everything, no storm was too strong
But this road’s been long, yeah this road’s been long
I thought she loved me more than anything, guess I was wrong
She’s moving on

Chorus
I don’t wanna say I’m going crazy
And I don’t wanna tell em’ I’ve lost my mind
I ain’t being myself here lately
Oh, but the truth is,
She’s really gone this time, this time

Bravo! Completely cool. I like the storm effects and the same as a lonely outro—well thought out and fabulous execution of a demo on limited resources.

LeeAndrew

LOL with all you are faced with every day, please don’t think I’d be bummed if you didn’t do it for another year (hopefully not that long). On your time, soldier—not mine. We’re good.

Friends,

Thank you so much for your reviews, thoughts, and prayers.
There’s a lot going on over here as we speak and I’m very fortunate to have the ability to still work on my music during what little down time I get. You folks are the best and I really appreciate you. I updated my website and I plugged ya’ll in a little bit in the links section.

God bless,

Hey LeeAndrew,
this is a beautiful song. I really enjoyed it. I love those instrumentals inbetween the sections of the song. Awesome. All without drums, bass and all the rest. You can setup nice laid back mood just with your guitar and your voice. I’d love to hear this piece played by a full-blown band.

All the best
Robert

The song is good but I don’t think it will ever make it, a 41 second musical intro and a 26 second lyrical stanza and then a 33 second chorus. 2.33 lyrics in a 4.07 song. 41 seconds is about the length of an intro on a 6 minute song.

I do like your voice LeeAndrew.

I disagree with you Charles. LeeAndrew said he wants to re-record it. I see a great deal of potential in this piece. The intro can be shortened a bit so that the chorus sets in at the 1 minute mark. I’m just listening to it for the 4th time. I think it needs some soft drums, a bass and a cello. I would really like to hear what this sounds like when LeeAndrew gets it professionally recorded.

Charles and Robert,

Thanks guys for the compliments about the vocal and the constructive criticism. I did that long intro on purpose. I wanted to create a “soft, leaving mood in the worst possible conditions”. Hence, the thunderstorm…lol…I just wanted to have a little fun with it and show a different side of me on the production end. On the album, when finished, it will be a whole lot better with all the instruments and everything, which I plan on redoing whenever I return home. Right now I’m just trying to be creative to keep from going insane over here…lol…

To me, this song is actually an album “filler” and not meant to be released as a single but the song is 100% marketable without all of the sound effects, etc. and is actually timed at about 3:36 without all of the extra sound effects in there. I have written over 100 songs and aside from the recording process of course, picking the ones for the album was the hardest part for me.
Now, whenever I return, I have a lot of work to do. I believe to the fullest extent of my ability that this album will be the best thing musically that I’ve ever done and if it is successful, then I have another ready to be recorded after that one.

Once again friends, thanks a million!!

Robert I didn’t say the song had no potential, only no potential in the way it is currently done. A 15 second intro and shortening the song by 26 seconds would do a lot for it.

Hey LeeAndrew,

good to see an other real Songwriter Buddy around.

This is a real good song. The intro could be a bit shorter, but it helps you to get into the right mood. The melody in the verse could be a bit tider, but in this way it helps to make the real fine chorus stronger.

Overall you have a cool tune here.

I am sure you know that Johnny Cash wrote many of his early songs while he was in the army. But he was not in Iraq, it was Germany back then :)

Martin,

Thanks for the compliments man!!
Yeah, ol’ Johnny Cash was at the right place at the right time wasn’t he, had a whole new sound back then, kind of helped to create a path for some folks to follow…lol…he was diverse too…had his hand in everything up until the day he died…
