Is it better, when starting out, to have a manager or a lawyer? Any thoughts?

Hi:

As Bob Dole said when asked the boxers or briefs question, “depends.”

Both of the above can pretty much cover the basic needs of a beginning artist.

The real question to ask yourself before giving anyone a cut is whether or not they’re worth the money.

A manager or lawyer that can help you get to the next level without selling your soul is worth it.  Someone who makes impossible claims while draining your money flow isn’t.  The latter is far more common than the former.

Best,
Bruce
