Hello Mr. Haring my name is Matty Z.

I was noticing some companies are asking for exclusive rights to digitally distribute music.

is that a good idea to have all your eggs in one basket so to speak?

Also how will that effect the music maker from distributing his/her music in the future from their own site?

thanks for your time

Matty:

While it’s never a good idea to tie yourself to one location, there may be some exceptions in this Wild West era of digital music.  If there’s a major marketing quid-pro-quo in exchange for those rights, then it may be worth considering.

Just make sure of two things.

1)  If the duration requested is a very limited time frame
2)  No other rights to the compositions are required to be signed over
Best,
Bruce
