Hello,

I have a few sites that I have reviewed over time, and was wondering if anyone has had any experience, success or red flags with any of these companies.  If you have anymore you know of, please suggest:

Songu.com
Youlicense.com
Sonicbids.com
Songlink International
Taxi.com
SongQuarters.com
HitQuarters.com
PMP Worldwide
Musicplacement.com
Artistopia
Tonos.com
Filmmusic.net

Thanks!

Links highlight automatically in the 2nd post and thereafter, as long as you have the www. and whatever suffix is needed.

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? http://www.garyeandrews.com

http://www.Songu.com - recommended as a great on-line educational resource, I was a member for quite some time.  They also have a few pitch opps.  I believe you can try them for free for a specific period of time.

http://www.Sonicbids.com - I tried Sonicbids but I have an ethical issue with the fact that the listing party gets part of the submission fee.  In addition, I don’t like making submissions and not hearing anything back.

http://www.SonglinkInternational.com - I tried them, I made several submissions (it’s pretty much by mail, overseas), had one or two nibbles.  They seem legit but it is pricey.

http://www.Taxi.com - I’ve been a member of TAXI since 2004 and am just in the process of signing my 4th deal through them.  However, all of my submissions were rejected for the first three years.  They are very tough, and they expect excellence.  A good training ground for the serious songwriter/composer who is willing to listen & learn.

http://www.Tonos.com - defunct, aren’t they?

http://www.Filmmusic.net - if you are writing/producing broadcast quality & understand licencing & royalties… a good resource if you are pitching for film/tv

Elle posted the link to the musiclibraryreport site - it’s a pretty good list… however, take some of the comments with a grain of salt because some folks don’t seem to understand how things work.

I’ve logged onto this site because I’m also interested in hearing some user comments about some of these sites, particularly Filmmusic.net, SongLink, SongQuarters and Taxi. I’m finding it hard to make up my mind about them. So please keep the comments coming.

I’m already a member of http://www.hitquarters.com To be honest although I signed up for the contact directory I’ve ended up getting a lot more out of all the interviews and demo reviews they regularly do, which are up-to-date and very informative. Couldn’t really care less about the A&R charts and all that malarky, mind.

Hi,

Just wanted to update everyone that we now have over 200 music libraries and nearly 900 comments from composers, songwriters and library owners at http://www.musiclibraryreport.com. If you are working with music libraries, or plan to, please come by and visit. As far as we know there is nowhere on the Internet were this resource exists. I for one have learned a lot about which libraries I want to deal with and those to stay away from. BTW you do not need to use your real name or e-mail address when commenting and it’s free!

Thanks!

Hi,

I’m a music composer and producer. I also work in the Music industry (Film, Records, TV, Ads etc..)

If you have an access to one of those sites I would like to give you an access to another one with all the contacts of Film Industry (I got it with my Cannes Film Market accred.  ) to compose music for pictures….

tell me if you can be interested. For my part I have tried SQ and MyHitOnline..I have received one positive return from Interscope Records (using myhitonline) but the A&R Staff has finaly passed on the track..

Best,
Romain..

Hello,

My name is Marc-Alan Barnette.I teach songwriting and practical application to the music business in Nashville. Most of the services are legit and some do have different focuses. Song U, is more of a songwriter’s education service, as are things like NSAI, and others, myself included. TAXI is the best known and operates primarily on the West Coast in film and television.

With all of them, there are benefits and negatives. In this day and age, where downloading is rampant and openings for songs to actually make money, the “inside cut” rules the day. This is where the artist, their producer, friends, lables, major and independent publishers are really about the only one’s that actually have a realistic opportunity at pitching songs. The rest take a very outside shot, and these services all provide various degrees of that. anything that encourages you to co-write, meet other writers and primarily seek out new and up coming artists, thereby getting in on the “ground floor” gives you the best shot at pitching songs. Make the artists a part of that song from the beginning are really the key and if you look at any artist out there, look at who wrote their songs. Most likely it is them themselves or the people they knew at the beginning of their careers.

The Internet provides us all with opportunities to find artists before they break it big. Using sites like You Tube and My Space as a forum for “scouting artists” are a much better way to get to know artists early in their careers. You might find the next Taylor Swift and Justin Beiber.

Good luck in all you do.

MAB
