Copyrighting a collection of songs - Form eCO

Hi All, I have so appreciated the forum. Maybe someone can help me.

I have 20 songs that I want to copyright as a collection. Using the new online eCO form it asks for the creation date and publication date.

But what if each song has a different creation date and publication date? The form doesn’t seem to allow for that.

Should I worry about it?

I see others registering their collections but I can’t find anyone who has addressed this issue.

All the best, perkins

I registered the old-fashioned way, submitting the ‘hard-copy’ paper form with the single date, but also lyric sheets with the actual dates of creation of each song on them. Copyright law ‘endows’ a work with the ‘right’ to ‘copy’ a work, your ownership of your intellectual property, as soon as you put it in ‘fixed form,’ recorded, written.

The single copyright date is for the registration of the collection, under its own title.

Does it enable you to upload individual lyric ‘sheets’ or ‘lead sheets’?

If it enables you to submit lyric sheets you can ‘register’ actual creation dates that way.

If it enables submission of a list of titles in the collection, you can list the actual dates of creation there.

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? http://www.garyeandrews.com
