These are the items an NSAI evaluation considers, and perhaps we should consider when evaluating our own songs.

FORM/STRUCTURE:

COMMERCIAL VIABILITY:

CLOSING COMMENTS:

YOUR QUESTIONS…ANSWERED! (IF APPLICABLE)

I RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING BOOKS TO ASSIST YOU IN YOUR WRITING:

If There is any lingo within your evaluations you may not understand please check out the NSAI Dictionary created by our evaluators by clicking on or copy and pasting the link below into your url:

DISCLAIMER:
Each evaluation you receive reflects just one persons thoughts on your music. While the evaluation is simply one person’s opinion, it’s a very educated and experienced one. Our evaluators are not here to “rip” on your song. They donate their time and experience to assist you in becoming a better songwriter. Their job is to help you gain perspective on your song. They will in most cases cover: Form/Structure, Melody, Lyric, Concept/Story and Overall Viability in today’s commercial market place.

Again, remember, it is easier for an evaluator to just say “great job!” on an evaluation than it is to formulate and articulate a constructive criticism of your song. Our evaluators, as well as our staff, get genuinely excited when we hear a great song. We WANT you to succeed. We want to help propel your career and never stand in the way of you and your success. The only way this department can help boost your career is by ensuring you have ALL the TOOLS necessary to write great, commercially viable songs that an artist will want to cut.

Keep writing and remember, it ALL BEGINS WITH A SONG!

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? http://www.garyeandrews.com

I have had songs evaluated by NSAI. They have 10 items in the criteria they use to judge your songs. Here are couple more to add to Gary’s items:
Is there a strong opening line that grabs the listener and sets up the story.
Are the lyrics descriptive, clear and understandable building on the song.
Rate the “repeat listenability” of the song.
You are scored on each item from 1-10. The results are honest and refreshing.
