Copyrighting a sound recording and Authorship

Hello,

I’m using the US copyright office’s eCO online copyright registration system. I was planning on copy right all my songs except one (because its a co-write) as a collection, since I am the author of both the compositions and master. But I noticed that in the authorship section, there is a checkbox for production, as in a music producer/engineer. My brother co-produced the album, and but we decided to write out an agreement stating he would own 50% of the masters. Do i still need to include him as an author during the copyright registration?

Thanks,
  Jason

You can ask the copyright office by phone or email, if it is not covered in one of their circulars.

It sounds like you have agreed that he will be a co-owner of the copyright and therefore should be listed on the form.

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? http://www.garyeandrews.com

yes you have to include him on the copyrights..for the song(s) he co-produced… but being that the agreement called for him owning 50% of the master.. i will look more into this.. i know i post on this somewhere else.. or have the information somewhere..
