I write lyrics.  I have beats and tunes for them in my head.  I need someone who wants to work with me to make the beats out loud.

I don’t recommend telling your age on the internet. It might attract sexual predators, or worse, telemarketers and Army recruiters.

If you have recording capabilities a lot of people do collaborations from around the world these days. You may want to find someone more local though, who you can actually meet and work with face to face. Local musicians may not know it but being the artist who brings a good original song to market can zoom them to fame and fortune, and the songwriter along with them. You might find local bands and convince them to do your songs, or co-write with you. Music stores, sometimes local music scene websites, and places where music is performed might be places to meet them and see what you and they think.

All the links at the top of the page are worth perusing. These collaboration ‘partnerships’ can be frustrating. People have different understandings of how to work together, who ‘owns’ what, and when it becomes an accepted joint ownership, a cowriter partnership.

http://www.copyright.gov has circulars you can download and study, enabling you to protect your intellectual property.

http://www.johnbraheny.com has a pdf download and a book “The Craft and Business of Songwriting” that can be your textbook for learning about the biz end of bringing your art to market.

Explore. The possibilities are infinite, good and bad. The more you know about it before you get involved and contractually obligated the more likely you are to have good experiences more than bad ones.

Welcome to the campus of Songwriter101.

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? http://www.garyeandrews.com

Hi, I am with Gary. It´s best to make friend with Local people. I had several collabs over the Internet and some pretty cool songs came out BUT I had the most fun meeting with other people and writing the song face to face, because this is the best way to exchange your ideas. Some days ago one of my best friends suggested to work with me on songs via INternet and I said “NO” (he thought it´s easier for us to do so, but I think, when he wants to work with me he should bring his ### into my house *lol*).

For you Alex, you might want to consider posting a lyric or two, to see what you are able to do. The term “I hear the beats in my head and I need someone to bring them to life” does not attract people. But I am the same: I am the composer guy, and I always want to tell the lyricist what to write about *lol* .. but it feels annoying.

So, show your stuff around, make friends and it will work out for you.

p.s.: Once, I posted my email and my age. A few weeks after that I got some email from music companies “offering” their “service”. Quiet a bit later I had emails from “girls” offering me their “service”... and mails from “africa” asking for money… so…
