STARTING OVER Lyrics and Music by Ron Nelson copyright 2012 all rights reserved

V1
Lost my job,
when they closed the factory.
Then that whiskey,
got the best of me.

So I left town,
outta luck.
My life packed in a U haul,
behind a pick up truck

I took a chance,
at starting over.

V2
Left you in Detroit,
went down to New Orleans.
Made my way cross Texas,
here to Abilene.

Where that old truck,
finally let me down.
Been staying at the mission,
on the bad side of town.

I had a plan,
for starting over.

Chorus
Now I miss waking up in bed,
with your head on my shoulder.
Without your arms to hold me tight,
the nights seem so much colder.
Now I don’t blame you,
if you say we’re through.
But darling I wish me and you,
were starting over.

V3
I got your letter,
yesterday.
As I read each word,
you had to say.
I couldn’t hold,
those tears back from my eyes.
It hit me like a train,
when I finally realized.

You were,
Starting over.

(repeat Chorus)

Outro
Now I don’t blame you,
if you say we’re through.
But darling I wish me and you,
were starting over.

Hi Ron.  Man ... I guess that when a bad string of events gets started ...  You know, it does show a common theme in real life though.  Lose your job ... start on that path of self-pity ... change all your habits to the negative side ... see the rest of your positive influences slipping away (because when you don’t like yourself it’s hard for others to).  I would sure like to see this person make some kind of turn-around in his life though, because it would show that the rest of us have a chance.  He really doesn’t appear to be starting over ... just slipping farther and farther down the pity-path.  I know that’s the view that you wanted us to see, but it sure is depressing ... now where’s my bottle ... Solid write. Cool, if sad, twist in verse 3. I’d like to hear it!

Hi Ron,
I really love this lyric and it has a very strong message. I hope to hear the music.
Your voice has a very modern country flavor and it delivers a song very well…yeah!
It has a unique sound all it very own..Simply love it…

Best,
Fran Williams

Hello All,

I have added a link to Soundcloud with the edited lyrics,  https://soundcloud.com/user-295053414/starting-overwma  This song was written and recorded in 2012, however I couldn’t find the sound file until recently.  Comments are welcome.  I apologize in advance for the poor quality.

That’s a really good song, Deac. Unremittingly sad, but somehow holds our sympathy for the narrator. Good twist at the end. Nicely performed too.

An actual letter! That dates the song LOL.

Hello Gav and Carroll,

Thank you both for the listen and your comments, it is much appreciated.

@ Gav Yes, that line does pretty well date the song, probably throughs it way back, but not as far as that 60’s song by the “Box Tops” with the first verse
“Gimme a ticket for and areo plane,
ain’t got time to take a fast train.
  Lonely days are gone,
  I’m a goin home,
my baby wrote me a letter.”

Best wishes,

Instead of a bad luck song, how about a bad decision song._._.?

Quit my job
Slaving at the factory
Let that whisky
Get the best of me
Up and left town
Without a care
Now I’m wishing
You were still there

Hi Ron,

Every time you write a new lyric, you have a new idea, Ron! ..Great as always.

Although it’s sad but it’s very good song… I like your voice.

Hello “T”,

I like the idea of a bad decision song, that is a viable alternative, though I don’t want to try it with this song, but thanks for planting the seed, you may see something soon.  Best wishes,
