I like it!

Wasn’t there a group—-punk or metal——called The Tubes?

Joel sorry I am getting to the conversation a little late. I went and listened to your music on Soundclick and then read your lyrics. I could defiantly hear the tunes behind lyrics in my head. It was a really cool vibe. I can relate to electronics experience. It’s a blessing and curse all at the same time. In a lot of ways its killed live music. On one hand it certainly has made it easier to record and write. A friend of mine Aaron Watson who lives here in town has certainly proved you don’t need a label to make it in the music business. As for me I love being able to record something and send it to my phone and listen to it. Especially when I am doing things around the house. I feel like it has made me a better musician by being able to listen and learn from my errors.

Thanks for checking it out (that stuff is mostly instrumental, only 2 songs with lyrics).

I have always said not to throw the baby out with the bathwater—-and that you’ll never grow if you stay set. It’s a music-killer as an attitude.

The song isn’t about the entire digital universe, just about the people with eyes glazed over with those damn things. It’s scary, like the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. But I moved out of NY, and it’s way different in suburban N, PA, and even in Philly.

I just wanted to get it outta my system, now I have—-and didn’t have to get locked up for stepping on one of Mr. Jobs compact gates to heaven…

lol,

all marching in unison to
technologies’ silent drum
the world reduced to a screen
and keeping time with its thumbs…

there’s a whole genre on youtube dedicated to the stupid things people do while on their phones! :)

My dissatisfaction was with cathode ray tubes, television, and electric guitar amps. I called it “Leave The Tubes Behind”. I’d be thirsty for human companionship and go to someone’s house and they’d sit there watching TV. I played acoustic guitar and wrote Songs. They played electric and did cover Songs. They left me behind. I left them behind. Forty years later they got tired of playing bars. I don’t know what happened to the TV watchers. Still watching I’m sure.

Chords:
Bm XX4432
A XO222O
G 32OOO3

I went to see a friend of mine the other day.
He led me in the door again, And went away,
Into the tubes, Both babes in blue, And adults old and gray.
The T.V. tots who drew the lot, Of viewing the tubes all day,
And those of you who see yourselves,
Can you see yourselves at all?

Leave The Tubes Behind!
Don’t besiege your mind.
Leave The Tubes Behind!

I went to see the band again and hear ‘em play.
They cranked it up to nine or ten, And went away,
Into the tubes, with rhythm, blues,
And a rock that rolled away,
Electric men whose fate has been,
To play through tubes all day,
And those of you who hear yourselves,
Can you hear yourselves at all?

Leave The Tubes Behind!
Don’t besiege your mind.
Leave The Tubes Behind!

Good, sensitive young (meaning you) song. Your line about ‘TV tots’ reminds me of the ‘TV babies’ refererce in Drugstore Cowboy. But, as this has a ‘74 (c) you were there first.

Great minds thinking alike?

Hey Joel,
I was just bouncing around here looking for inspiration and re-read THIS!! How would you feel about
mashing this concept together with ‘Wake Your A$$ Up’?? :)

I dunno about that. That’s a whole other song. Too much of a good thing (LOL).

Glad you like it, though. However, since this could easily be a hard-driving ‘metal’ song, and that’s not really my bag, why don’t YOU consider writing the music?

Do ya’ll really think of me as METAL lol?? Grungy blues rock perhaps….. but not metal. No matter how
much draino I gargle with I just can’t get that “walking dead, zombie eyed rasp” in my voice that John
wants! I’m actually trying to tone it down a bit…. think Molly Hatchett meets Tom Petty :)

Couldn’t help myself :)

It’s way beyond a craze, people have lost their way
Wandering in a digital haze
No signs of life at all, it really makes no sense
How can they all be so fu</ing dense?

Hypnotized and mindless
You’re looking like your stoned
Clear your eyes, find your balls
And leave your phones at home

Technology’s the only way your hookin’ up
Sit next to each other on the phone
You’d probably have a heart-attack if you would touch
You need to wake your a$$ up!

What I mean is some kind of blasting, driving rock—-with minimal chords. I’d only ruin it w/too many chords. Don’t really remember Petty’s stuff and Molly Hatchett is a new name.

Why not take a crack?

I’m really trying hard to get John to pull back a bit on that whole “METAL VIBE” he’s got
going on. Don’t get me wrong, he’s great at it!! But until the next Layne Staley comes
around and joins us here at the 101…........... perhaps John could have a little fun
just jamming with US :)
