Clay Mills of http://www.SongtownUSA.com posted this on Facebutt. I wondered if anyone was using it.

I use LANDR. I will master the track myself (using a preset in my DAW - I am no master of mastering, to put it mildly), then remove the mastering and upload to LANDR to see what that produces. Then I compare the two versions.Usually, but not always, LANDR is better. It’s no substitute for a real live expert, but my songs don’t really justify the expense of one of those.

Micky has used LANDR on all his tracks. He’s got a bunch of posts in Tune Topics, Gary, if you’d like to see some examples of how it turns out. Gavin, which recent posts of yours are LANDR mastered?

Well, there’s this.

And this

And I’m not sure why, but I have a LANDR version of “If Only You Knew,” featuring the lovely and talented Ms Jenny Stokes at SoundCloud and a non-LANDR version at my website, if you want to compare.

For the SoundCloud version, I did something I discovered by accident. Before uploading to LANDR, I forgot to remove the mastering I had already done. Thus, you could say it was mastered twice. I ended up liking it. When I master it using my DAW preset, I tend to get a warmer sound. LANDR mastering seems to be brighter and clearer. So this mix had a bit of both.

For the quieter songs, like this one, I tend to prefer my own mastering. It also has the advantage that you can upload a .wav file to SoundCloud, which tends to give slightly better results. You can get a .wav version from LANDR too, but it’s not free and if, like me, you are always making changes, that’s a consideration.

I heard the only thing LANDR did was making the track louder… the thing is, you get a couple of tracks for free, but after that you have to pay for it. If you are willing to pay you can use some other toys… like Izotope Ozon 7 ... it´s a mastering plug in. The Elements version offers presets ... the “big” version offers everything you can ask for and is a little bit more complicated. Too complicated for me I have to admit :)

...every once in a while, I get in the mood or so…and start to play..

Thanks for mentioning Tunedly. We’re always happy to help wherever we can. Just to add that the clients who have used our mastering service indicated their preference was based on the fact that we use real, live engineers instead of just using a machine (artificial intelligence). The human ear is still better trained to pick up on details that a machine simply cannot.

I could go on and on, but it would probably be best if you head over to https://tunedly.com to see what it’s all about.
