Champion

Hello hello!

New song I’ve been working on called Champion. What it’s turned into is sort of an uplifting, empowering “I can do it! bring it on!” type of anthem. The deeper context behind it is dealing with depression/anxiety, but can really fit into any situation (racism, sexism, LGBTQ, bullying, ageism, etc.) Would love any feedback.

Thanks! (There are a couple of bad words, btw.)

Lyrics:
I’ve got a backbone for ####’s sake
I can take it a hit, take a shot yea
of anything you want (anything you want)

You can throw me in the deep end
without a paddle or a boat
or a mother-####### float
I’ll be alright (ooh i’ll be alright)

I’m full of shock, shock therapy
baby you don’t know me

Chorus:
Oh, come and give it to me any way you want
I can take it like a man
I can take it like a champion
Give it to me
Give it to me good
Give it to me
Give it to me good

I bet you didn’t think you’d see me walking down this road again
I guarantee double takes when I enter in
You’ve got another thing coming

You think you’re sly
Think you’re sly
Think you’re sly
But I’ve got eyes in the back of my mind
Well, surprise surprise
You’ve got another thing coming

Cuz you don’t know
I’m full of shock shock therapy
baby, you don’t know me

Chorus:
Oh, come and give it to me any way you want
I can take it like a woman
I can take it like a champion
Give it to me
Give it to me good
Give it to me
Give it to me good

Bridge:
Give me something good…
Cuz I woke up this morning with the fire in my eyes
But by mid-afternoon I thought the flame had died
So I picked up my chin
I said “I’ve got one life”
And starting right now I’m gonna do it right

Repeat

I’m full of shock shock therapy
baby, you don’t know me

Chorus:
Oh, come and give it to me any way you want
I can take it as I am
I can take it like a champion
Give it to me
Give it to me good
Give it to me
Give it to me good

I can take it as I am
I can take it like a champion

Micky - You know how to get it done.  This is first rate stuff all around with a big chorus and melody that would appeal to any of the big pop stars out there now - (Pink, Perry, etc…) Love the pre-chorus, especially just a nice melody and couple of lines that set up your hook.

Good luck with this one - CJ

You did it again, Micky. Made my day. What an uplifting song. Love it man.

One suggestion…. That background grinding noise at 2:24 and 2:26 seconds is a bit distracting. It sounds a bit like you’re riding a squeaky chair.  ;)

Good call on varying the chorus lyric so the song relates to everyone and anyone. Love “Oh, come and give it to me any way you want
I can take it as I am, I can take it like a champion.” Great rhythm in those lines.

For those of you on forum who aren’t giving this a listen, the lyrics on paper don’t come close to doing it justice. It’s all in the delivery. Yeah!

Exactly. You’ve got it done all right.

The ratchet IS a little distracting as Jenny pointed out. Namely because it appears twice in quick succession like it’s meant to mark a particularly important part - here the lift. At 0:47 it occurs in the chorus which might actually make more sense.

I also don’t care for the distorted vocals at the beginning.

All in all it’s a great uptempo song with a strong chorus and a wonderful bridge.

Kudos!
