I Don’t Want It

Verse 1
I play my music as hard as I can
I tell the stories that made me a man
I don’t tell downers, no woe’s me
I act like a winner in this land of the free
I want to be a winner so here’s what I do
I work harder than you and you

Chorus 1
I don’t want to be second best
I don’t want to be like every one else
I don’t want.. it that’s not for me
I don’t want mediocrity
I don’t want it so here’s what I do
I work harder than you and you

Verse 2
When some one whispers in my ear
There’s only one thing I want to hear
I’m impressed by things I see from you
I am sure you’ve learned to do what winners do
I am sure you don’t want to be second best
Why live life like all the rest

Repeat Chorus 1

Verse 3
If the only easy day was yesterday
I say bring on tomorrow lets get down and play
Its backbreaking work but son of a gun
Its what I love to do, it’s down right fun
So pump your fists if you agree
That we should all be all we can be

Chorus 2
I don’t want to be second best
I don’t want to be like every one else
I don’t want it its not for me
I don’t want mediocrity
So pump your fists if you agree
That we should all be all we can be

Chorus lines 1-4 and repeat to out

Steven, I think you risk turning off your audience with a line like “I work harder than you and you.” If I were a performer, I wouldn’t want to make such a claim and risk insulting my listeners. At the end, you try to bring them along with you with the lines…

So pump your fists if you agree
That we should all be all we can be

...but it might be too late by then. Once they start saying to themselves, “How does this guy know how hard I work?” it might be hard to get them back on your side.

Just my two cents, which is $0.02 more than my suggestions are usually worth.

Great point.
I wrote this right after reading Total Focus by Brandon Webb.
He is about personal excellence but never at the cost of the team.
To him, working harder than the next person is the path to success.
And excellence
And something everyone should aspire to.
Anyhow, it does come off as harsh.
I thing changing it is worth it
You have to wonder what kind of lyrics Ann Rand would write .

Thanks for the insight
