Ghosts and Alligators :UPDATE!:

so, i think i’m approaching the home stretch on this one. after much wrangling with the lyrics, i’m finally pushing the meter closer to 100%. this is a rough automated mix. really curious to hear your thoughts on the background vocal harmonies. too much, too little? also curious how this sounds coming through your speakers. too muddy, boomy? too thin? do the guitars sound ‘big’ enough (trick question. they’re never big enough! :) )are the drums too loud? too much bass, not enough? any glaring sore spots jumping out at you?

(verse)
haunting, hiding in plain sight
always right behind me
just beyond the light

waiting watching between the lines
until i catch you sliding
out the corner of my eye

(chorus)
the veil crashes down
we’re face to face
and teeth to teeth
an image purified
standing in the mirror
you’re laughing in the mirror
i’m on the other side

(verse)
dreaming, whisper in my ear
images uncertain
picture perfect fear

breathing, meaning beyond words
that should never have been spoken
should never have been heard

(repeat chorus)

(bridge)
victim of coincidence
and ever changing circumstances
rearranged (pull the strings)

hung in the balance
by a thread
cant go back the way i came
encircling desperation

back and forth and push and pull
moving too fast nowhere to go
you overwhelm me
pulling me down.

underneath the water
beneath the muddy water
spinning in the shadow
falling through the shadow
tearing with abandon
to feed a hunger deep within

(final chorus)
the veil crashes down
we’re face to face
and teeth to teeth
the enemy inside
standing in the mirror
i’m laughing in the mirror
it’s all so crystal clear
an image purified!

Cool tune!!!

I bet you’re a Tool fan…as am I. I like your vocals. The only thing I think I would do is pan the heavy guitars more right/left. They sound right down the middle. But that’s just personal preference dude.

Sounding great Brad.

Thanks John!

Tool? who’s that? Haha! no, i’m a big fan. Great band!

so the guitars break down like this. ive got my rhythm guitar mostly panned hard left and right except in the intro, and opening verses. the lead guitar is panned l60 r60 (or somewhere in there). thinking maybe in the alligator section (2nd half of the song) i pan the lead to the right since it’s basically playing the same as the rhythm in that part. maybe spread it back out again in the final chorus. will try that out!

still tooling (heh..) with the vocal harmonies, think i might bring them forward a hair. also messing with key changes in the first two choruses.

thanks again Dude! always appreciated! :D

Your vox are right up front, clear and proud! (as they should be) Love that bubbling
flange and the “laughing” guitar at the end! :) This is really sounding great man!

Tony! Thanks A Lot Man! :D

that bubbling flange was a great idea! really adds to the ‘theater stage’ of it all. and the laughing guitar was a total accident. I didn’t consciously set out to do that, just playing around with tremolo chorus and delay and such to create the ‘ambiance’. I didn’t even actually notice it until a couple of weeks ago listening to the interlude and at the end.  ‘laughing in the mirror!’ so I turned it up!

Got to agree about the bubbling - I can see the alligator’s snout just above the water. Great stuff. You’ve got a whole soundscape thing going on but with great lyrics too. Nice!

I wish I could take credit for that “laughing” guitar! You could write a whole song around that! :)
