Help! how to get convincing MIDI brass - ‘Brick House’/‘September’ type sound.

I wonder if anyone can help, I’ve been tempted to use brass on some of my Disco/funk songs but always failed by not getting a convincing sound, it’s not that the sound of the brass isn’t right, it’s more the attack, and the bit that I can’t explain.

Maybe it’s the number of notes, or the notes themselves, or the range of the note, I just can’t put my finger on it.

I’m using Magix independence pro plugin.

If anyone can help I’d be grateful.

I’m with you, Rich. It’s very difficult to get a good brass sound with midi. I’ve never really solved it. There are some reasonably good VST instruments but they’re not nearly as convincing as piano or violin for instance.

Hi McGavin

The sound from Independence is very good, it’s just controlling it, (like putting a live eel through a shirt sleeve) as a brass artist would do, blimmin hard, I don’t know if it’s because I’m not a brass musician, I know there are specialist session players in string synths, but brass, I don’t know.

Thanks anyway
