Sea Of Orange

This is an original song I wrote to describe how it is to have to leave behind your family and fly back to work for weeks on end into extremely harsh conditions in remote Western Australia.

I myself am like 1000’s of others that work away in the resources and mining sector that in in the fly in/fly out game (FIFO) to provide for our family’s. As you would think, it takes its toll and relationships can be strained. So people cope better than others, and some do it very tough.

The title “Sea of orange” is due to the colour of the north west of Australia in the Pilbara region, also for the high vis orange we wear when on site.

This one is for them. Enjoy!!!

Sea Of Orange

Its early morning
And its fly out day today
Not ready to leave you
Alone in our warm bed
As I walk away again
Walk down the drive way
Watching the wheels turn
getting further away from you
I get to the airplane
And all I see now
Is that sea of orange once again

I look all around me
No smiling faces
There’s no need to read their minds
We’re all in the same boat
Up in the clouds now
Thinking about what we leave behind
hit the ground running
not wanting to realise
I’m now 1000 miles from you
And all I see now
Is that sea of orange staring back at me

And all I see now
Is that sea of orange staring back at me
