singing all alone

[verse 1]
i wrote some songs about you
and cigarettes and second guess
wrote down all our stories
pretending there was something left

[chorus]
but i’m not
lying to myself with thoughts of hope
cuz you’re not
scrolling through old pictures on your phone
and though i always thought
someday we’d find our way back home
i’m singing all alone

[verse 2]
pirouettes of introspect
i’m trying not be misled
oh, cuz what is love?
we made it clear there’s nothing left
i’m flying but with drugs again
it’s over, i remember what you said

[chorus]
cuz i’m not
lying to myself with thoughts of hope
and you’re not
scrolling through old pictures on your phone
and though i always thought
someday we’d find our way back home
i’m singing all alone

[verse 3]
silhouettes from thoughtless sex
and retrospect of zenith’s end
oh
losing versions of myself
i’m turning into someone else

[outro]
i’d love if i’m wrong
but maybe i’m best alone
maybe i’m best alone
from all that i know
i’m best alone

Hey Pick,  I really like the chorus to this.  The contrast in syllables between lines 1&3 and 2&4 create a nice rhythm, and really set up the final line to be in a position to make a strong statement.  Do you have a melody in mind?

The verses didn’t grab me though, and were harder to follow the meaning.  Lines like ‘pirouettes of introspect’ and ‘cigarettes and second guess’ sound poetic, but I am not sure what you are saying.

However, back to the chorus: ‘you’re not scrolling through old pictures on your phone’ is too good of a line to not work this lyric some.

the line “pirouettes of introspect” is basically me saying my thoughts on myself and who i am and want to be are constantly changing. the line “cigarettes and second guess” is just saying i’ve written some songs about cigarettes, second guess, and her. aside from that, yeah i have the melody pretty much worked out.

Just some thoughts…...

“i’m flying but with drugs again”
I’m flying aimlessly again

“silhouettes from thoughtless sex
and retrospect of zenith’s end”
silhouettes of thoughtless sex
and promises in retrospect

I’d like to hear this :)
