I found this video highly instructional. He analyses RadioHead’s songwriting. If you’re not up on music theory, it might not make much sense, but at the end he makes a commentary on the value of writing to niche audiences that I found fascinating. On 101 we’ve often debated the push to write for the mainstream (inane content, catchy beat, blah blah blah) versus the wish to write for art’s sake alone. Some of what he says in this video settles that argument (for me anyway) once and for all.

Hello Jen,

Thanks for sharing, it is fascinating, ( and I’m not up on music theory ), still the commentary is spot on.  I believe, like many here, the smaller niche audience should be the target.  Best wishes,
