So this is what I get
Should I scream or fret?
I thought I was your man
Didn’t know your other plans
What did I do to earn this?
Now will I ever find bliss?
I’ve been used like a tissue paper
To you, did I ever matter?

Love is just a four letter word
It’s the voice that’s never heard
It’s the game people often play
And the winner has the last say

So this is my place
In your time and space
You left me with these scars
I wonder who you really are
Oh such a big fool was I
To fall for your pretty eyes
I thought I was your need
But truth makes me bleed

Love is just a four letter word
It’s the voice that’s never heard
It’s the game people often play
And the winner has the last say

Now that you have gone
My night won’t see a dawn
My wound won’t ever heal
Oh such a loser, I feel

Love is just a four letter word
It’s the voice that’s never heard
It’s the game people often play
And the winner has the last say!

Chris,

Your songs are absolutely beautiful. I’m a sucker for the piano, but your voice is so good too. I really like ” Forever and a Day” and my favorite new song is “I Hope”. My husband even said he really liked ” I hope” and we generally have two different tastes in music.  I would love to hear you doing something real up beat. I’m not sure I’d be able to write something you’d like but you have gotten a new fan for sure either way. It would be amazing to hear you with a full band. You are surely blessed. Keep up the remarkable work.

I agree with Miranda. Your vocals are really good and have a contemporary feel to them with the amped up emotion. Very nice production too.

This is not really my kind of thing, but I can appreciate how well you do it :)

Interesting that you want to do country storytelling songs. That’s quite a departure from what I’m hearing at Reverbnation. What kind of stories do you want to tell?

Thank you Miranda and Gavin for the kind words!
To be honest I actually have quite severe anxiety and the idea of me performing live or in a band makes me physically sick!
I love music though and would love to write music for others!
The reason for switching to country is mainly because I feel my style of writing is a little out dated for modern day pop and therefore I simply wouldn’t have any success,  I think I can write some really nice country ballads. But I struggle writing a genuineness country story style lyric!

Yes, country lyrics are not easy to pull off convincingly. You need the ability to take yourself seriously while doing so. Many of the songs describe a world that doesn’t really exist any more, if it ever did, but for all its maudlin sentimentality, it’s real to its listeners.

I do write some songs in a country style, but they are mostly subversions of the genre, fish out of water stories that reflect my own experience as a transplant to North Carolina. I always liked the comedy songs best anyway, and used to have a collection of them many years ago. My favorite was “I’m Going to Hire Wino to Decorate Our Home.”

I guess I did write one unironically sentimental country song, but I’m not sure that it really worked.

I hadn’t heard of them, Sandor, but I just watched some YouTube videos of Wilson Dixon, and he’s hilarious. Thanks for the recommendation. He reminds me a little of Hank Wangford back in the 80s - a gynecologist from Ealing with an alter ego as a country icon. He was taking the pi$$ out of country, but you could tell he loved it too, and he knew how to play it. That really is the way to enjoy country music - embrace its profound silliness. Of course, round where I live it’s not seen as silly at all, and I’m not downplaying the talent of its great practitioners. It’s a bit like American football - an absolutely daft way to use your athletic abilities, but that athleticism can be very impressive.

I loved Mitch Benn’s break-up song. I heard it once before on the radio. Great stuff.

I think mitch benn has been around for about 20 years or more now . I remember seeing him perform at all the big comedy clubs , like jongleurs and the comedy store for example . these days he does a lot of topical comedy songs for the bbc . I don’t know much about Wilson Dixon tbh , apart from the fact that hes funny . I haven’t heard of hank wangford , so i’ll have to check him out

PS …..apologies again to chris for hijacking his post

i can plow the fields all through the day
got a scarecrow it’s getting in the way

i can plow the fields all through the night
got four wheel drive to do it just right

i can plow , i can disk and plant the seed
run a load of round-up to kill the weed

brand new tractor it’s got all the top stuff
spent a cool million and it’s really tough

got a stereo , TV , CD too
a coffee maker to complete the zoo

got tires on it taller than a man
got to get the plowing done if i can

there’s not to much else left for me to say
just driving a tractor all through the day

(music)

  (chorus)
i can plow the fields at 25
and i can disk them up at 32
there ain’t nothing in the world this four wheel drive , dual turbo charged diesel won’t do

so just watch the blur go by , as i shift on the fly , in my
  NEW TRACTOR

pop in a CD , oh refrigerated me , as i’m watching TV , in my

I am a musical dramatist who has some two acts and one acts finished.  One is a trilogy on the disciples of the Buddha and the other is a comedy about a basketball player in competition with an opera manager.

Greetings from Tehran Chris

Hope all is fine and free with you.

I am a born lyricist writing since the age of 9 growing up in Houston TX at the final stretch of my life.

I heard your angelic voice and one of my lyrics immediately entered my mind…

It’s titled “Soul Lost” and it’s about redemption..would love to hear this one with your captivating voice.

Also I had conducted a free evaluation on this song by a company in Nashville and they confirmed that it possessed considerable hit potential this and another song titled: “Galaxy Dust” which is a love song to the universe.
They suggested that the make a demo on these 2 songs but as I lacked the funds I have not gone through with the project.
You can also check out some of lyrics on youtube by simply searching my name shahab shamloo there.

Here is the song ..let me know what you think :

“Soul Lost”

1
Sittin all down
in this empty cell
Can’t recall
When times went well
Tryin t’figure out
In this head of mine
Which road I took
Was I drivin drunk blind ?

2
Oh baby
where are you now?!
This heart’s filthy bleedin
And I got no mind!
Which way did I turn
That got me here
Was I sweating for bread
Or was I hustlin beer?!

ChorusX2 :
Now all these words
Swirlin round my head
How can I say ?
Somethin best unsaid.
come on come back
And set me free
chains round my heart
Are killing me!!

3
Oh baby’s Ya man wasted gone?
His mouth wide open
But can’t make no sound
Smoke through his lips
Twirlin above his head
Or is that his ghost
dancin all around?!

4
All I know now’s
Yar love within
Only thing pure
Rest is all sin
Come on back girl
buckle up your man
Help him stand
His final last stand!!

ChorusX1
Now all these words
Swirlin round my head
How can I say ?
Somethin best unsaid.
come on come back
And set me free
chains round my heart
Are killing me!!

Bridge:
oh babe Ya man’s soul lost
Pon them roads all crisscrossed

ChorusX2
Now all these words
Swirlin round my head
How can I say ?
Somethin best unsaid.
come on come back
And set me free
chains round my heart
Are killing me!!
