Hey gang…it’s been a while :-)

“A Sweet Refrain”

Verse 1
I hear the words
I know the song
I hum the tune
I sing a along
It’s been inside my head for years
It makes me smile
It makes me cry
And for the life of me
I don’t know why
As I slowly…wipe away..the tears

Chorus:
The chorus comes
A sweet refrain
So much pleasure
So much pain
And there’s still so much left to see
Because life goes on
These wheels spin ‘round
It lift’s us up
It lets as down
As we all move… toward eter….nity

Verse 2:
My kids are grown
My folks are gone
But this old road
Goes on and on
As I get older day by day
There’s been too much whiskey
Too much beer
But I can still see
Pretty clear
I just wish…that I knew…the way

Chorus:
The chorus comes
A sweet refrain
So much pleasure
So much pain
And there’s still so much left to see
Because life goes on
These wheels spin ‘round
It lift’s us up
It lets as down
As we all move… toward eter….nity

Verse 3…or Bridge…who knows lol
The woods are quiet
Dark and deep
But I’ve still got pro-
-mises to keep
And I’ve still got a ways to go
So I look behind
I look ahead
I’ll stay alive
Until I’m dead
Because this is…the only song…I know

Chorus:
The chorus comes
A sweet refrain
So much pleasure
So much pain
And there’s still so much left to see
Because life goes on
These wheels spin ‘round
It lift’s us up
It lets as down
As we all move… toward eter….nity

Hello Ray,

So good to see you here again, sure have missed you.  This is a very reflective lyric, some happiness, some regrets.  In true form very well written, I enjoyed the read, thank you for sharing, and hope to see you back soon.  Good luck and best wishes,

Speak soon,

Fantastic lyric. When I read it I could hear a melody, like in the old days ..

...every once in a while, I get in the mood or so…and start to play..

Nice lyric. There are some great lines in there, especially…
“I’ll stay alive
Until I’m dead”

That just kind of sticks in your mind.

They are not nice they are brilliant. They flow pretty good.

Ray, just for the fun of it, would you allow me to play around a little bit? I know you are a big country fan. I can do country ... i think. Pressure, Pressure ... maybe modern country… ?

...every once in a while, I get in the mood or so…and start to play..

Hey Martin!  Very good to be crossing paths with you and much more so than you know :-)  Please feel free to play around with these lines, put them through their paces, and see what becomes of them :-)  And please - no worries about genre with me, either - just do it the way that you think it ought to be done and the surprise and the treat shall be mine :-)

Carrol, Gavin, and Deacon - thank you so much for having taken the time to read these, thank you even more for having taken the time to comment upon them…and your kind words are appreciated much more than you know :-)  I’ve been on a very long hiatus from lyrical writing and I might still be on it - I don’t really know lol But over the last week I’ve received notices from two different friends that they were picking up some of my older lyrics to produce and I guess it got me in the mood to experiment with tossing some lines around again.  The entire lyric actually sprang up around the two lines “Too much whiskey, too much beer” lol The most serious flaw in the lyric to my eyes is the absence of a strong and strategically emplaced hook - I wrote the entire lyric without one in mind whatsoever and had to struggle some with determining a name for it when I was done lol I’ve actually been doing A LOT of online DJ work these days and I pull from the weekly Top 40 charts in doing so…and I’ve spent the last year or so building my DJ archives in which I’ve listened to every single song that ever debuted on the weekly Top 40 charts from 1970 through 2017 - and I so totally wish that I had done this BEFORE I’d written all of my other lyrics and seen them produced lol I don’t know that I’m writing better or will be any more successful as a result of having done this but I do feel that I have a MUCH better grasp now on what I’m doing and in some key ways…and in terms of the absence of a strong driving central hook, there’s actually A LOT of high placing Top 40 songs similarly structured and many of them were done by talents that were largely unknown at the time…so it IS still possible to produce a successful song around that criteria…probably less likely but, nonetheless still possible lol :-)

These days the majority of my time is spent either working as an online DJ or in videography.  If anybody is looking for virtual venues in which to sing and/or play before virtual audiences with a global audience then just let me know and I’ll work with you toward making that a reality - it’s MUCH easier than one might think :-)

Also, below is the link to my most current videography-based project…feel free to check itt out and pass it along :-)
